New Horizons Legacy Challenge from SimberSanders

 New Horizons Legacy Challenge

"You’ve never really had anything or anyone to call home. You grew up without a family and a part of the foster care system. You could never stay in one home long and as a teenager you decided to just run away and wonder the world in search of somewhere you could belong. As an adult you continued wondering until you came across a remote, abandoned village. You notice a flyer from the mayor advertising free land for help settling the town. You’ve always wanted a home and maybe this is the perfect chance to try and settle down and create a home and family of your own. "

Welcome to the New Horizons Challenge. This challenge is heavily based on the It Takes a Village challenge by Pixieleaf, but also incorporates aspects of several other challenges I’ve been wanting to explore like the Lucid Legacy, Sims in Bloom, Build a City challenge. The main aspects of the challenge follow the Settler’s Challenge/It Takes a Village challenge plus additions of the Build A City challenge with some adjustments and updates for new aspects of gameplay.

This is a challenge that encourages you to build and create your own sims world! Its the perfect challenge for long cozy gameplay or a mix of storytelling and gameplay.

Goals

Build and populate your world, and lift all restrictions.

Fill up an empty Museum with collectibles (you can choose to collect all or just a few collections)

Learn and explore the sims 4 with different generation goals, personalities and careers.

Overall, have fun with it!

Setting up

Life span is your choice!

Create a single sim to serve as your founder. You can give them any aspiration or traits but you might prefer relating both of them to your generation goal.

You can start with a YA or Teen, but if your founder is a teen they must drop out of high school since there is no school yet

Select your starting world

Bulldoze all lots or I recommend using this blank save file and build or place your Town Hall/Museum

Place 2 additional residential lots with a family size of 1-2 sims

Start off on an empty lot with $5000 simoleons.

You can start with $0 for an extra challenge

Rules

You can’t keep any of the money a sim brings with them when moving in.

Use a dice roller online to determine how many children a sim can have unless otherwise required in the rules

Choose the heir based on whatever method you prefer as long as they are the child of your founder/previous heir.

Your founders/heirs' children must move out when they turn into young adults.

Selecting Traits

Infant traits should be random

Toddler traits can be selected if you achieve top-notch infant trait

Child traits can be selected if you Happy Toddler trait

Teen traits can be selected if your sim completes the first two stages of their childhood aspiration

Adult traits can be selected if your sims completes the first stage of their teen aspiration

Start collecting! you can sell any collectibles you want to help with money but remember you need to fill up your museum over the generations.

The next generation starts once your current founder/heir has completed their generations goals.

Tiny homes are acceptable to help boost your skills

Neighborhood stories can be used if you want a little extra chaos. I would be careful with which events you allow as random deaths and adoptions could really change your population.

Each generation will have a coordinating color just for fun and because I enjoy color coordinating my sims.

Populating Your World

The only residential and communities lots you should have in the beginning are:

The Museum

2 residential lots with a family size of 1-2 sims

Your chosen lot to start the challenge on

Rules for adding families:

When you are allowed to add a family, you can create them or download them. Roll the dice to determine the number of sims within the household (1 to 6).

Animals do not count for household number rolls, so feel free to load up the pets!

Different ways to populate your world:

Have babies!

You can use your Charisma skill to persuade people to join your colony: You can add one family for every sim in your family who has reached level 5 in Charisma.

You can also attract people by hosting great parties. You may add one family for every type of party for which you’ve got a gold medal. You can only invite people who live in your colony to your parties, you can’t invite homeless people!

Improving the services and the infrastructure in your colony will also make people move into your community. You may add one family for every community lot you add.

Restrictions and how to lift them

School

There is no school in your colony.

Requirements for lifting this restriction:

There must be at least twelve people living in your colony (your family included).

Medicine

Hospital births are not allowed and woohooing may always lead to a pregnancy (roll the dice! 1 means you need to pick the interaction Try for baby instead, and if you roll 2-6 you can just pick Woohoo).

If you have mods such as Wonderful/Wicked Whims or Relationship & Pregnancy Overhaul you can use these to always have a chance of pregnancy.

Requirements for lifting this restriction:

A sim must reach Level 5 in the Wellness skill or complete the Doctor career (if Get to Work is owned).

Donate 2,500 simoleons to represent medical equipment.

Electricity/Water

There is no electricity yet. Your entire lot must be off-the-grid

Requirements for lifting this restriction:

There must be at least four different community lots in your colony AND your heir must have 6 skill points in Handiness

Stores/Services

There is no way to go to the store (i.e have magical refrigerators full of food). All lots must use Simple Living and no services can be called

Requirements for lifting this restriction:

Must complete the first generation

Unlock Retail Shops

There must be at least 20 sims in your colony (you need sims to work these jobs)

Careers

You may not have a normal job as there aren’t any companies or infrastructure. Careers are therefore not allowed, but you may use other means to earn money (painting, collecting, gardening, fishing etc.)

Requirements for lifting this restriction:

Unlock careers as you unlock coordinating community lots

i.e Unlock the culinary career once you get a cafe/restaurant

For careers that do not have coordinating community lots use the following requirements:

There must be at least five different community lots in your colony

There must also be at least thirty people living in your colony (including your family)

ADDING COMMUNITY LOTS

When a community lot has a certain cost, you can either pay for that lot or try to fill the other requirements, in which case you won’t have to pay anything. If you decide to pay, just use a money cheat to reduce your money by the required amount.
