  • New Horizons Legacy Challenge from SimberSanders

     New Horizons Legacy Challenge

"You’ve never really had anything or anyone to call home. You grew up without a family and a part of the foster care system. You could never stay in one home long and as a teenager you decided to just run away and wonder the world in search of somewhere you could belong. As an adult you continued wondering until you came across a remote, abandoned village. You notice a flyer from the mayor advertising free land for help settling the town. You’ve always wanted a home and maybe this is the perfect chance to try and settle down and create a home and family of your own. "

Welcome to the New Horizons Challenge. This challenge is heavily based on the It Takes a Village challenge by Pixieleaf, but also incorporates aspects of several other challenges I’ve been wanting to explore like the Lucid Legacy, Sims in Bloom, Build a City challenge. The main aspects of the challenge follow the Settler’s Challenge/It Takes a Village challenge plus additions of the Build A City challenge with some adjustments and updates for new aspects of gameplay.

This is a challenge that encourages you to build and create your own sims world! Its the perfect challenge for long cozy gameplay or a mix of storytelling and gameplay.

    Goals

Build and populate your world, and lift all restrictions.

Fill up an empty Museum with collectibles (you can choose to collect all or just a few collections)

Learn and explore the sims 4 with different generation goals, personalities and careers.

    Overall, have fun with it!

    Setting up

    Life span is your choice!

Create a single sim to serve as your founder. You can give them any aspiration or traits but you might prefer relating both of them to your generation goal.

You can start with a YA or Teen, but if your founder is a teen they must drop out of high school since there is no school yet

    Select your starting world

Bulldoze all lots or I recommend using this blank save file and build or place your Town Hall/Museum

Place 2 additional residential lots with a family size of 1-2 sims

Start off on an empty lot with $5000 simoleons.

You can start with $0 for an extra challenge

    Rules

You can’t keep any of the money a sim brings with them when moving in.

Use a dice roller online to determine how many children a sim can have unless otherwise required in the rules

Choose the heir based on whatever method you prefer as long as they are the child of your founder/previous heir.

Your founders/heirs' children must move out when they turn into young adults.

    Selecting Traits

    Infant traits should be random

Toddler traits can be selected if you achieve top-notch infant trait

Child traits can be selected if you Happy Toddler trait

Teen traits can be selected if your sim completes the first two stages of their childhood aspiration

Adult traits can be selected if your sims completes the first stage of their teen aspiration

Start collecting! you can sell any collectibles you want to help with money but remember you need to fill up your museum over the generations.

The next generation starts once your current founder/heir has completed their generations goals.

Tiny homes are acceptable to help boost your skills

Neighborhood stories can be used if you want a little extra chaos. I would be careful with which events you allow as random deaths and adoptions could really change your population.

Each generation will have a coordinating color just for fun and because I enjoy color coordinating my sims.

    Populating Your World

The only residential and communities lots you should have in the beginning are:

    The Museum

2 residential lots with a family size of 1-2 sims

Your chosen lot to start the challenge on

    Rules for adding families:

When you are allowed to add a family, you can create them or download them. Roll the dice to determine the number of sims within the household (1 to 6).

Animals do not count for household number rolls, so feel free to load up the pets!

Different ways to populate your world:

    Have babies!

You can use your Charisma skill to persuade people to join your colony: You can add one family for every sim in your family who has reached level 5 in Charisma.

You can also attract people by hosting great parties. You may add one family for every type of party for which you’ve got a gold medal. You can only invite people who live in your colony to your parties, you can’t invite homeless people!

Improving the services and the infrastructure in your colony will also make people move into your community. You may add one family for every community lot you add.

Restrictions and how to lift them

    School

There is no school in your colony.

    Requirements for lifting this restriction:

There must be at least twelve people living in your colony (your family included).

    Medicine

Hospital births are not allowed and woohooing may always lead to a pregnancy (roll the dice! 1 means you need to pick the interaction Try for baby instead, and if you roll 2-6 you can just pick Woohoo).

If you have mods such as Wonderful/Wicked Whims or Relationship & Pregnancy Overhaul you can use these to always have a chance of pregnancy.

    Requirements for lifting this restriction:

A sim must reach Level 5 in the Wellness skill or complete the Doctor career (if Get to Work is owned).

Donate 2,500 simoleons to represent medical equipment.

    Electricity/Water

There is no electricity yet. Your entire lot must be off-the-grid

    Requirements for lifting this restriction:

There must be at least four different community lots in your colony AND your heir must have 6 skill points in Handiness

    Stores/Services

There is no way to go to the store (i.e have magical refrigerators full of food). All lots must use Simple Living and no services can be called

    Requirements for lifting this restriction:

    Must complete the first generation

    Unlock Retail Shops

There must be at least 20 sims in your colony (you need sims to work these jobs)

    Careers

You may not have a normal job as there aren’t any companies or infrastructure. Careers are therefore not allowed, but you may use other means to earn money (painting, collecting, gardening, fishing etc.)

    Requirements for lifting this restriction:

Unlock careers as you unlock coordinating community lots

i.e Unlock the culinary career once you get a cafe/restaurant

For careers that do not have coordinating community lots use the following requirements:

There must be at least five different community lots in your colony

There must also be at least thirty people living in your colony (including your family)

    ADDING COMMUNITY LOTS

When a community lot has a certain cost, you can either pay for that lot or try to fill the other requirements, in which case you won’t have to pay anything. If you decide to pay, just use a money cheat to reduce your money by the required amount.

    Community Gathering Spot/Wedding Venue

    Requirements to Unlock

Heir must reach Level 6 in Handiness

Donate 2,000 simoleons toward community improvements

    Police Station or Security Office

    Requirements to Unlock:

A sim must complete the Detective career (if Get to Work is owned) or Level 5 Logic skill.

Solve a mystery or crime (e.g., complete a Strangerville storyline or uncover a hidden area like the Forgotten Grotto).

Have no thefts or fights in the colony for a week.

    Public Pool or Spa

    Sims 4 Fallout Shelter Challenge

Sims 4 Fallout Challenge from Azrnyx

    Fallout Challenge

    Fallout Challenge – Sims 4

The world has been ravaged by an apocalyptic disaster years ago. You are the last surviving dweller in your vault. How you survive from here is up to you…

     Building your own Vault –

    The bunker should have:

    • Barracks
    • Toilets
    • Power plant (optional – only for aesthetics)
    • An indoor garden
    • Somewhere to eat (you can have a kitchen but NO fridge.)
    • A library/study
    • A medbay
    • A lab
    • A workshop
    • A gym
    • A classroom (or somewhere for children to play/learn)
    • A common room
    • A broadcasting studio
Some of these rooms can be merged into one

The bunker should also be as deep as it can go – ensure your living spaces are as far from the radiation/outside world as possible

     To Start –

Build a vault/bunker or download one off the gallery

Start with an adult/YA sim who will be your overseer

    Choose your difficulty:

    • Easy – Add 2 other dwellers to the household
    • Medium – Add 1 other dweller to the household
    • Hard – Add no other dwellers to the household

     Rules –

Only explorers may invite other survivors to your vault. The new dwellers need to go through a decontamination procedure in your medbay.

You may only add other C.A.S. dwellers depending on your chosen difficulty:

    • Easy – Every 1 game week
    • Medium – Every 2 game weeks
    • Hard – Never

Every dweller must have an assigned role - no use wasting resources.

In the event that the overseer dies, a new overseer will be voted in by the dwellers to replace him/her. If the overseer ages to ‘elder’ then the overseer may choose and train their successor.

The overseer is not to have any children. As the leader of the vault, the overseer’s number one priority should always be to the vault. This also removes complications when choosing a successor.

Anyone not following the rules will be exiled.

     Roles (Base Game)–

Overseer – The leader of your vault. He/she is the first dweller and is in charge of the vault and how it is run. When the Overseer dies, it is up to the vault to vote for a new one. Suggested Traits: Genius, Athletic

Explorer – The only dweller allowed to leave the safety of the vault. They have the skills required to survive in the wasteland and go looking for useful collectibles and other survivors. (anything found needs to go through a decontamination process) Suggested Traits: Athletic, Loves Outdoors

Scientist – The dweller responsible for research. They dedicate their day to learning all that they can about the apocalypse and trying to make the world habitable again. Suggested Traits: Genius

Engineer – The dweller responsible for ensuring your vault stays up and running. If anything breaks, this dweller is in charge of fixing it. They also use the woodworking table to make handy items for your vault dwellers to use. Suggested Traits: Genius

Gardener – The dweller responsible for gardening and ensuring that there is enough food for the vault habitants. This is the only source of food allowed (unless the explorer finds anything above ground) Suggested Traits:

Caretakers – The dwellers responsible for the upbringing of toddlers and children. They look after your young dwellers and ensure they have everything they need to survive and grow up healthy. They are also in charge of ensuring the vault remains a clean and healthy place to live. Suggested Traits: good, family oriented, neat

Radio Broadcaster – The dweller responsible for broadcasting to outside of the vault. You need to grow your vault population, right? So why not call the survivors to you rather than going out to find them. This dweller is also responsible for entertainment. You have no tv in your vault so the entertainer plays music to entertain the other dwellers. You can also have radios/sterios in your vault with this role active. Suggested Traits: creative

With this role active, you can add new CAS dwellers to your vault every:

    • Easy – 4 game days
    • Medium – 1 game week
    • Hard – 2 game weeks

New Dwellers – Survivors that join your vault are assigned a role at the overseer’s discretion, but generally roles are assigned based on the incoming dwellers traits.

Pregnant Dwellers – These dwellers are excused of their duties as looking after their baby is of the utmost importance.

Elders – Older dwellers will continue to work in their assigned role until they die. Everyone in the vault needs to pull their weight (there’s only so much pure air in your vault that everyone needs to pull their weight to stay). They are also responsible for teaching their replacement the ropes. They are your greatest source of wisdom and knowledge in the vault

      Roles (Expansions)–

Scientist (Get to Work) – The dweller responsible for research. They dedicate their day to learning all that they can about the apocalypse and trying to make the world habitable again. They also invent helpful machines for your vault and craft serums (using workstations found in the build/buy debug menu). Suggested Traits: Genius

Medic (Get to Work) – The dweller responsible for keeping the vault habitants healthy. Suggested Traits:

Engineer (Discover University) – The dweller responsible for creating robots and helpful machines to keep the vault up and running smoothly. Suggested Traits: Genius

Engineer (Eco Living) – The dweller responsible for ensuring your vault always has power and clean water. They are the only other role allowed to leave the safety of the vault, in order to check on solar panels and wind turbines above ground. They are also in charge of upcycling materials that the explorers find ruined in the wasteland and fabricating any new needed furniture. Suggested Traits: Genius, Maker

Companion (Cats and Dogs) – Add a pet to your vault. The explorer should be in charge of training your pet as it will go with the explorer whenever a requirement to leave the vault arises. This pet will help watch the explorers back in the wilderness as well as help find collectibles

     Helpful Mods –

MC Command Centre -  enables you to disable young dwellers from going to school as well as other helpful in game features: https://deaderpool-mccc.com/#/releases

Life Tragedies – enables you to have your sims die of fatal illnesses – radiation must have leaked into your vault somewhere! (disable all other life tragedies except for fatal illness). With this mod enabled, increase your explorers ‘tragedy occurrence speed’ whenever they leave the radiation free safety of the vault. Set it back to slower once your explorer returns: https://www.sacrificialmods.com/downloads.html

Zombie Apocalypse – Change your nuclear radiation ravaged world to a zombie apocalyptic one. With zombies walking the surface, your explorers need to be extra prepared for leaving the vault: https://www.sacrificialmods.com/downloads.html

Full House – Allows you to increase the number of sims in your household. No pesky limit of only 8 sims allowed: https://modthesims.info/d/536556#.VCb-x1oB5g8.twitter

Vampire Executioner Career for Sims2 a Challenge for Sims4

    Charlee Heart - https://modthesims.info/d/280097/vampire-executioner-career-based-on-bram-stoker-s-dracula.html

Throughout the 1880s and 1890s in Victorian England, authors such as H. Rider Haggard, Rudyard Kipling, Robert Louis Stevenson, Arthur Conan Doyle, and H.G. Wells wrote many tales in which fantastic creatures threatened the British Empire. "Invasion literature" was at a peak during this time.

The Sims 4 DEI Remover Has a Problem

Note: this post is about my own opinions and ideas.

    DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion).

The DEI Remover mod lets Sims players universally change settings in CAS for race, gender, body type, and relationships for their Sims and of course, the NPCs (non player characters). Universally meaning all of them with one switch. Like a universal remote you may have for your television, one remote for all the devices. Some work, some are still plug and pray. The DEI Remover is on the plug and pray side now. I've heard EA updated the game to disable this mod from working. Other players have said they would be concerned about having it in their game, EA might ban their account.

I don't have the full story. I found the mod online but did not install it. I was curious enough to download it, but its not really what I want.

The ‘DEI Remover 1.0.0’ started in March 2024. I don't know who developed it and chances are they'd rather avoid the chaos, controversy and possible legal trouble from EA now.

EA does have the legal right to choose which mods are... developed, used, not sure which is the right word... with their game. That's understandable. That's why a lot of the adult mods and CC are not supported by EA and other groups.

This mod is described as a parody. Maybe it is.

I won't include any links to the DEI Remover. EA is shutting down sites, forums, people that post the link as quickly as they can. Also, if you want it, you can find it. Be careful though, scan the download for viruses or anything else not so friendly. There is a risk to downloading and installing something with this much controversy. Some people see it as an predatory opportunity.

So how did we get here?

This morning, #TheSims was trending. I expected to find a lot of posts about the latest game update and new fairy pack. I did. I also found this (see below). I had heard nothing about the DEI Remover mod until reading this.

There is a Problem with This Mod

This mod has its own set of options. Of course it isn't going to suit everyone that way. Some people may want a Sim world with all women, Amazons. I've done that. Some may want mainly children, a Lord of the Flies world. There are players devoted to a time period in history. Have you ever thought about building a world in a regional location (like the African mod) where everyone is one race? What about a world where everyone is fat and you want to micro manage them into good health? (I don't think I'm up for that challenge myself).

This mod doesn't give a selection of options. That's the problem.

Why Not Have a Sims 4 CAS Universal Control?

There could  be a universal control option to let people set the skin and hair colours, genders, age, pronouns, body types, relationship styles, everything available in CAS. We could have an option to choose a world of feisty Amazon women with one universal switch in CAS. I can come up with more chaotic and crazy ideas to work on with that kind of control over my Sims and NPCs.

More Options for a CAS Universal Control?

I'd like to spay/ neuter all pets without going to each individually. Vet visits are expensive, even virtually. Then there are all those strays...

MCCC has some options and you can use Sims 4 Studio to set CC fashions to be unavailable for random Sims and NPCs. But, EA could add this feature to the game. A universal control to not allow Sims to wear any CC options, unless individually chosen for them.

What about you? What settings would you like to change for all (or most) of your Sims and NPCs?

    In the end, I'm Pro-Choice

The Sims game has challenges. You can build a lot of almost any kind. You can build a Sim of almost any kind. You choose their adventures, relationships, mishaps, fashions, even their teeth! Challenge yourself, create a lot and Sim family the complete opposite of what you usually do. The Sims gives people that chance to explore, to "make space for everyone to tell their story".  Any Sims that give you trouble can face the ladder less, walled in pool. You're the Dungeon Master in this game.
